I was contacted by Rob and Jim all the way from New York who wanted to get married over here and initially wanted me to search for a venue for them. I was lucky enough to be able to shortlist a number of venues and met with Rob and Jim during one of their trips over here and show them around the lovely West Country.

It was like meeting 2 good friends and it was lovely to show all the fabulous venues. They fell in love with Dillington House which I knew they would and it was great to work with Kirsty and her team there during the wedding planning.

They wanted me to plan the wedding for them as they would only be in the UK one more time before their wedding date so everything was done through Skype.

Rob and Jim had a very clear vision of what they wanted and set in a grand house in the lush Somerset countryside the wedding was to be elegant and sophisticated. The colour scheme for the flowers were pure white and we were lucky to have stocks, lily of the valley, roses, Hydrangeas and ranunculus in season.

With a welcome dinner on the Friday evening we dressed the tables to give a hint to the theme of the wedding but the dinner was held in the theatre with a fabulous video shown to the guests and speeches from close friends. With everyone flying in that day it certainly was a long day for them but they kept going to the early hours.

The weather on their wedding day was superb with bright sunshine all day which was perfect for their later afternoon wedding outside by the fountain. Rehearsals were done the day before so they all knew what they were doing so everything went according to plan.

It was such a special ceremony with friends singing Ave Maria and readings too. The harpist played at the beginning and end of the ceremony which then led on to the guests having cocktails and canapes on the lawn with a string quartet playing.

The wedding breakfast was served in the grand dining hall with flowers throughout the tables and lots of candles. It was romantic and elegant and the guests bought the fun element to proceedings. Children were entertained in the Hyde by Quantock Baby Sitting services which meant the adults could enjoy their evening.

US weddings are very different to weddings in the UK where we eat and then dance, Rob and Jim had music and their first dance before the starter and dancing was on the menu after each course. The band were amazing and they danced through to late evening when guests all moved to  the theatre where the DJ was waiting to entertain them even more.

I heard that they partied into the early hours and still kept going. It was great to see them all the following morning where by most guests left early to catch flights back to the US.

It was such a great and perfect weekend and I have remained in touch with Rob and Jim and will meeting up with them when we travel to New York later this year.

Testimonial from Rob and Jim

'Thank you so much for everything you did to make our wedding day as special as it was. It truly was a dream come true for us and we could not have done it without you. If you ever make it to our neck of the woods don't hesitate to look us up.' Love Rob and Jim
